Sydney Entrepreneur’s OpenCoffee: Amazon Web Services

This morning the Sydney entrepreneur group for OpenCoffee had a great guest speaker Mike Culver. Mike is an evangelist for Amazon’s Web Services and seeing as I really haven’t investigated Amazon’s new services I decided it would be worth attending.

What Amazon has looks amazing although I’m not sure I need to tackle it just yet. At the end of the day though, it would almost be silly not to take advantage of the scalability and low cost they offer. Mike explained their offering exceptionally well.

This isn’t much of a post, I know, but thanks to the people that organised it.

When I was about 12 I found out that you could create web pages thanks to a book my parents bought me. As soon as I discovered this I began imagining how I could make money by building websites for local businesses, in fact I distinctly remember tossing and turning the entire night after I discovered this. I was so excited – imagine the possibilities, imagine what I could create.

A year or two later, still excited and full of enthusiasm I’d learnt how to create mobile games. A well-established local mobile developer bought my first game and it is now available all over the world – it even made it to a top 20 list for Australian developers. All at 14.

I am extremely excited about making web and mobile software and I want to rid the world of hard to use software.

Why? Because I get so excited when I see the way someone’s eyes light up when they discover how easy technology can be.
