As I started responding to a comment from Paul Ritchie about How to behave the way we want to? I started thinking, “How does one ‘train’ or ‘practice’ leadership?”.
Extending Paul’s allusion to sport, they say the best form of training for a sport is playing the sport itself. That is if you’re a cyclist the best training is to cycle; weights etc. might help but won’t help as much as cycling.
By that then, the best way to practice leading people is to lead people. The best way to practice public speaking is to speak publicly. The best way to practice building strong relationships is to build strong relationships.
I’m pushing on all these fronts, that is practicing by doing and at the moment I see no other alternative.
I wonder, how do you ‘practice’ leadership?
