Lance Armstrong quote: “Pain is temporary, quitting lasts forever.”
I’ve just finished reading the Tao of Pooh. I got through it very quickly – it’s a very enlightening read. I highly recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in Taoism.
You’ll probably say “WHAT?!?! Gain enlightenment from reading about winnie the pooh?” just like I did. You’ll leave the book on the shelf and walk off. Don’t do that.
A friend handed me his copy and it has been a great read. Once you start reading you’ll understand why the author uses winnie the pooh.
I’ll leave you with a quote I liked from the last few pages that can also be found in the Tao Te Ching:
To attain knowledge, add things everyday. To attain wisdom, remove things everyday.
Walt Disney – “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
Socrates – “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is a habit.”
Remember the Michael Jordan ads where Jordan said that he’s missed something like 22 game-winning shots? He then finished by adding, “I succeed because I fail.” People who are obsessed with playing the “what if” game are destined never to get out of the starting gate.
I just love this one because it really says something for a never give up and never say die attitude.
“Oh no, I haven’t failed 5,000 times. I’ve succeeded
in finding 5,000 different ways that you cannot possibly
build a light bulb.”
– Thomas A. Edison, on his progress during his quest for the incandescent electric lamp
